A Special Neighborhood Meeting was held by the Township Council of the Township of Roxbury on January 31, 2007.

 

OPEN PUBLIC MEETING STATEMENT

Notice is hereby given that a Special Neighborhood Meeting of the Township Council of the Township of Roxbury will be held on Wednesday, January 31, 2007 at 7:00 PM at the Senior Center, 72 Eyland Avenue, Succasunna, New Jersey.  This meeting is being held for the purpose of general discussion with Township residents.

 

Adequate notice of this meeting of the Township Council of the Township of Roxbury was given as required by the Open Public Meetings Act as follows:  Notice was faxed to the Daily Record, the Newark Star Ledger and the Roxbury Register on January 4, 2007; notice was posted on the bulletin board in the main hallway of the Municipal Building on January 4, 2007.

 

Roll Call:  (Present)  Councilwoman Kathy DeFillippo, Councilmen, Tim Smith, Jim Rilee, Martin Schmidt, Fred Hall and Mayor John Ciaramella

 

Also Present:  Christopher Raths, Township Manager; Debra Ward, Recycling Coordinator; Mark Noll, Chief of Police; Anthony Bucco, Township Attorney and  Janet Rieth, Deputy Township Clerk

 

OPENING REMARKS

Mayor Ciaramella  welcomed everyone to the meeting and introduced Council members and staff who were present.

 

Debra Ward, Recycling Coordinator, gave an overview of the Township’s recycling program and answered residents’ questions.

 

Councilman Rilee left the meeting at 7:30 PM.

 

Chief Noll discussed what is being done by the Police Department and Roxbury High School to  remind students of the rules and regulations for teenage drivers in light of the many recent fatal motor vehicle accidents involving teenagers.

 

Mayor Ciaramella opened the meeting to the public to ask questions and voice their concerns.  Many residents stated that they have heard that the Township is closing the Social Services Department and voiced their concerns.  Mr. Raths stated that the Township is looking into the expenses of the Department and verifying the number of families that come in, but a decision has not been made.  The Council will be discussing this issue during the budget process.

 

Other issues discussed were the possibility of the installation of sidewalks on Eyland Avenue, southbound, in the area of Circuit Drive as well as a portion of Righter Road and traffic problems at the Eyland Avenue/Route 10 and Hillside Avenue/Route 10 intersections.

 

ADJOURNMENT

At 8:15 PM Mr. Hall made a motion to adjourn the Neighborhood Meeting.  Mr. Smith seconded the motion.
